About Qatar

Qatar is a peninsula, located half way down the west coast of the Arabian Gulf.
The coastline  covers  more than 700 km with shallow coastal  waters in most
areas.
The terrain is flat and rocky, covered with sand flats and dunes. The total
population is presently in the region of 700.000 and has been increasing at a rate
of 9% annually in recent years.
Almost fifty per cent of the population resides in the city of Doha,
which is the business and administrative capital.

Qatar Flag

The national flag is maroon with a broad white stripe,
the two colours being separated with a nine point serrated line.
The white colour represents the international symbol of peace.
The maroon colour symbolizes the blood shed during the several
wars Qatar has undergone , particularly in the second  half of the
19th century.
Living in Qatar
Qatar is a wonderful safe place to live and a very good
environment for both families and single people. It is a   small
community and you will find that you often run into friends and
neighbours in any of the shopping malls or   restaurants. For
sports enthusiasts during the winter there are always top class-
sporting events to watch, ranging from top class tennis to the
Qatar master golf tournament. You could watch Tim Henman one
night, the following week see the top golfers of the world on Doha
Golf Course and the following week watch a visiting International
team such as AC Milan play against the Qatar All-stars.
There is no shortage of high-class restaurants as all the best five
star hotels are located here. And for the kids there are plenty of
their favourite restaurants, Mc Donald’s, Burger King etc…
Shopping
Shoppers in Qatar have an amazing choice of shopping malls to choose from.
The most difficult thing to deciding which one shall you visit today! The City
Centre Doha has five floors and more than 350 shops. City Centre also has 2
ice skating rinks and lots of other entertainment for children. If you prefer
something different there are lots of traditional souqs to visit in Doha here you
will find the old fashioned charm of Doha. Here you will find many unusual items.
Exploring the souqs is fun and can be a rewarding experience.
One of the nice things about Doha is that whether you are venturing  out in a
group or on your own, the souq and the city is a safe place to shop.

Education
This is an important topic, and one, which is of major concern to anyone considering a
move to Qatar as well as to those who already have their home here.

There is a large choice of private schools and nursery facilities available in Doha,
following both the British and American curriculum.     


Climate
                The country has a moderate desert climate with hot dry summers                                      
                 and mild winters.
                Winter nights can be cool, but temperatures                                                                       
                  drop below 7 degrees Celsius.
                Rainfall is scarce  (average  70mm per year),
                falling on rare days between October and May.
